We rarely get to play around with US-specific smartphones of a more budget stature. That hasn’t stopped us from recommending the Samsung Galaxy A13 5G, sight unseen if you’re looking for a handset in the $200 ballpark, but we still felt a more thorough approach was fitting. So, with that in mind, we tracked down a Galaxy A14 5G and brought it to headquarters for reviewing.

With that out of the way, the Galaxy A14 5G isn’t a huge update over the A13 5G. That Dimensity 700 we’ve been rambling on about on this one comes straight out of the A13 5G. The rear camera system remains unchanged, too – a 50MP actual camera is joined by 2MP macro and depth units. Battery capacity is still plenty, at 5,000mAh, but the new phone is somehow 7g heavier. That ‘somehow’ quickly gets answered when you look at the display, which is now 6.6 inches in diagonal (6.5 inches on the A13 5G). More importantly, the new panel has a 1080p resolution as opposed to the 720p on the older model – that’s an upgrade we can appreciate. Another welcome upgrade hides in the waterdrop notch at the display’s top edge – the selfie camera is now 13MP as opposed to 5MP.

The Galaxy A14 4G has a 6.6-inch PLS LCD panel with a full-HD+ (1080 x 2408) screen resolution. It runs on the MediaTek Helio G80/Exynos 850  processor with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB storage, and is based on Android 13 with One UI Core 5. As for cameras, it has a 13-megapixel selfie lens, a triple rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel main shooter, a 5MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. Both front and back can record up to 1080p video resolution. It has a plastic back panel and is powered by a 5000mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging out of the box. It comes in Black, Dark Red, Silver, and Green colors.

Samsung Galaxy A14 4G weighs 201g and measures 167.7 x 78 x 9.1 mm. it is a massive phone and does not come lightly, considering it has a 6.6-inch display size. The device has a glass front, plastic back pane, and body frame. The 4G network-enabled handset supports either a Single SIM or Dual SIM (Single SIM (Nano-SIM) or Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by). Samsung provides various color choices to choose from. The colors available are Black, Dark Red, Silver, and Green. Overall, the minimalist but ergonomic design makes the Galaxy A14 stand out in class and elegance, as expected of most Samsung devices. It features a large, 6.6-inch PLS LCD screen, which is impressive and immersive. At 1080 x 2408 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~400 ppi density), you will not be disappointed as you browse through your applications and web pages.
